With over 35 years of experience in the pump industry, I co-founded Pump Action in 1994 alongside Scott Gray. I bring extensive knowledge across a wide range of pump systems and projects, from water boosting to thermal expansion and beyond.
Kade’s journey with Pump Action is a fantastic example of how apprenticeships provide real opportunity for growth, development and long-term career progression. Since joining the business, he has demonstrated outstanding commitment, resilience and a willingness to continually expand his skill set.
Over the course of his apprenticeship, he has not only strengthened his electrical expertise but also broadened his capabilities into mechanical engineering. Kade’s progression is a reflection of his own determination to keep learning, combined with the supportive and collaborative culture within the Pump Action team.
Here’s what Kade had to say about his apprenticeship journey:
“I joined Pump Action in April 2024 as a second-year electrical apprentice. My previous experience only consisted of working on big building sites, carrying out new electrical installations, so coming over to a company that specialises in water pumping equipment was slightly daunting. However, from day 1, all the engineers at Edinburgh were very helpful and always willing to share their knowledge.
Thanks to them, I went from being an apprentice who had only ever worked on electrics, to becoming an engineer that is capable of carrying out mechanical jobs, such as stripping down pumps, changing motor bearings and mechanical seals, installing various forms of pipework and working on air handling systems.
I have also learned a lot about how to install and commission the automated controls associated with water pumping equipment, which I am becoming more confident with as time goes on.”
I qualified as an electrician in October 2025. From the directors to management and the engineering team, Pump Action offered me a great deal of support throughout this process and definitely helped me to get to where I am today.”
